Dust mites can be found in your pillows, mattresses, carpets, furniture, clothing and almost
anywhere. You are probably not aware of this but dust mites survive and feed on dead human skin flakes.
Even though there is no complete solution to eliminate them you can try to inhibit their growth and reduce their numbers.
One of the best ways to get rid of them would be a dust mite vacuum or a HEPA filter vacuum.
If you are on a tight budget then one of the easiest solutions that you can apply here is washing the sheets, and bedding, at least
once a week. This should be done in hot water. However if dust mites are on your sheets, they are also on your mattress so you'll have
little time before they crawl back on your bedding if you're not using dust mite mattress covers and dust mite pillow casings. It
has been seen that regular vacuum cleaning can be effective at controlling dust mites and reducing allergies.
Basically carpets are known as one of the biggest reservoir of mite allergen. Depending on the quality of your vacuum
some dust mite allergen can escape from the vacuum itself. Even with a dust mite vacuum there is no assurance that the
dust mites would go away but using one you can reduce their exposure.
Studies of dust mite vacuums have shown through testing that the type of carpeting in your home and the technique
with which you vacuum can have an impact on how well dust mites can be controlled. If you have worn carpets for example
dust mite allergen can penetrate to all depths. However, using a newer Berber style of carpet with a loop pile will help
keep them on the surface making it easier remove them with regular vacuuming.
There are certain kinds of vacuum cleaners that have designed specifically to help control dust mites and using a
closed system help contain allergens during vacuuming. There are several features that you should look for in a good
dust mite vacuum. Sometimes there will be a pre-filter which helps prevent clogging of dirt and dust in the main filter.
Special HEPA filters which ensure that the air emitted during vacuuming is free from allergens. Bag and motor
components are completely sealed with the help of rubber gaskets which reduce chances of leakage of dust filled air.
These are just some of the simple ways through which you can reduce the amount of dust mites in the house. Rather
than trying to cure the problem which would be challenging you should focus on minimizing their impact with regular cleaning and vacuuming.
